DEATH OF JOHN CHERRYHOLMES

Death has again visited this section of the county. This time it has taken an old pioneer. John Cherryholmes died last Saturday evening at 9:15.

Father Cherryholmes was 85 years old the first day of last December. He was born in Tuscararus County, Ohio, in 1803. He is the father of 15 children, only seven of whom are living. Joseph, the eldest, is in Chautauqua County, Kansas; Allen, the next, is living on the home place and took care of him through his old age and illness; Ruth, the youngest daughter, is living in Wallace County, Kansas; Jeremiah, the youngest child, is living in Derby; the others are in the east.

He has been suffering with the natural infirmities of age for several years, but worsened about three weeks ago and gradually passed into the sleep of death.

He has been a professed Christian for fifty years and died in the triumph of a living faith.

He was among the first settlers in Union township, coming here in 1854. He will sing no more that song he was wont to sing as long as he was able. He would sing this old song nearly every day until recently when he was not able to sing: "When a few more days are wasted, When a few more scenes are o'er, When a few more griefs I've tasted, I shall rise to fall no more."

The funeral was preached by Rev. Hard, of Humeston, from the text, "Blessed are they that die in the Lord." He was interred in the Last Chance Cemetery, Monday, followed by a large crowd of neighbors and friends.

The bereaved family wish to extend their thanks to the neighbors and friends who so patiently and earnestly helped them in their time of trouble.
