H. LaVerne York, 72, of Abilene, Kan. died on Feb. 18, 1990 at Memorial Hospital at Abilene.

The son of Fred L. and Ruby Myers York, he was born at Adel on July 1, 1917. He graduated from Redfield High School in 1935, and then moved to McPherson, Kan. to attend McPherson College. He married Evelyn Herr on Sept. 10, 1939. They farmed in the Navarre community until 1983, when they moved to Abilene. He was employed at the livestock sale barns at Salina, Kan., Herington, Kan. and Abilene, and also had been a custodian.

He was a member of the Navarre Church of the Brethren, and had served as moderator for many years. He was a charter member of the Navarre Lions Club, and was also a member of the Chisholm Trail Lions Club. For several years, he served as the r-H sheep superintendent for the Central Kansas Free Fair and he also was a member of the Dickinson County Sheep Association.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby York, and by a sister, Marvel Deardorff.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; a daughter, Karen Lundgrin of Olathe, Kan.; a son, Bryce York of Prairie Village, Kan.; his father, Fred L. York of Dallas Center; two brothers, Verle York and Carroll York, both of Adel; and two grandchildren.
