Funeral services for Alton Carl Wiese, age 85, of North Zulch, Texas are set for Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 10 AM at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in North Zulch. Pastor A.J. Loeschman will officiate and burial will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation hours are from 12 noon to 5 pm on Friday with the family present from 2 pm to 4 pm at the Madisonville Funeral Home. Alton Wiese was born in North Zulch on March 3, 1924 and was a lifelong resident there. He was a faithful member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and, for 30 years, served as its treasurer. He was the custodian of the church for 20 years. Mr. Alton loved the out-of-doors and all of the creatures he saw. He gardened and took great care of his rose bushes which numbered over 30. He was a perfectionist in all that he did, and therefore he had a beautiful garden. He met a widow, Laura, who was the mother of one of his neighbors, and they married in July of 1984. His wife gave him a family that consisted of her 9 children and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and even great great grandchildren. Mr. Alton passed away on December 29, 2009 in a Madisonville nursing home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ida Wiese; a sister and brother-in-law, Lillian & Dean Duncan and two other brothers-in-law, Jack Elliott and Eddie Wade. Surviving family members include his wife of 25 years, Laura Wiese of North Zulch; a brother, Edwin Wiese and his wife, Forgie, of Bryan; three sisters, Clara Elliott of Bryan, Lorine Wade of Houston and Ella Mae Vernon and her husband, Daniel, of Houston; nine step-children; thirty step-grandchildren; twenty-seven step-great grandchildren; four step-great great grandchildren; three nephews and a niece.
