Funeral services for Col. Carl E. Nesbitt, 79, retired Army officer of Norman, Okla., will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Scott's Funeral Home chapel.
Rev. Walter M. Allen will officiate and military rites will be held at the graveside in Restland Cemetery.
Col. Nesbitt died Tuesday in a Norman hospital.
The fourth son of Andrew Clarence and Anne Edith Nesbitt, Col. Nesbitt was born at Coryell City Nov. 14, 1892, and was reared there. After graduating from the University of Texas, he was superintendent of the public schools in Mineola for several years.
He was a second lieutenant in a U. S. Army infantry unit during the first World War. In 1932, he was elected state commander of the American Legion, Department of Texas, and during the administration of Gov. James V. Allred, he served as adjutant general of Texas.
During World War II, Col. Nesbitt served with the U. S. Army in Europe.
He married Miss Agnes Heron in Norman, Okla., Nov. 11, 1933. After his retirement from the Army, Col. and Mrs. Nesbitt made their home in Norman.
Surviving are his wife; one niece, Mrs. O. N. Hix of Gatesville; a nephew, Alex Nesbitt of New York City; one greatnephew, William Andrew Nesbitt of Waco; and four greatnieces, Mrs. James E. Smith of Hamilton, Mrs. Steve Tindall of Nacogdoches, Mrs. Don Hunt of Gatesville and Miss Janis Hix of Gatesville.
