Born and raised in Brownwood TX, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps in November 1941 and served primarily in the South Pacific until 1945. While serving a second enlistment with the U.S. Air Force, from 1948 - 1953, he surrendered his life for the ministry. Upon his discharge from the military, he entered Howard Payne College in Brownwood TX, where he graduated with a degree in Theology in 1956. While in college he began a ministry that lasted until 1996. Churches in which he served as senior paster were:

First Southern Baptist Church, Kerville CA, 1981-1985
He also served as interim senior pastor in several churches in California from 1990 through 1996. In addition to being a full time pastor, he taught in public schools in both Texas and California for 18 years, retiring in 1980. He expressed great satisfaction in teaching and working with special education students, helping them to reach their potential. After 34 years in California he returned to Brownwood in 1999 where he lived for 4 1/2 years prior to his passing.
