Update 11/19/2011 from wvy (#46555353): Thank you for posting this memorial of Thomas Dunn. I am researching, primarily, his brother Ransom, and have a book, 1901, by Ransom's daughter, Helen Dunn Gates, which gives some info on Thomas which I hope you will add to his memorial page:
.....
Title: Rev.
Name: Thomas R. Dunn, b. Bakersfield, Franklin Co. VT.
Died: June 10, 1863, New Orleans, LA.
He was the son of John DUNN, Esq, and Abigail (Reed) DUNN, of Bakersfield, VT. His father died an early death, leaving three children by his first wife, and the eight (4boys,4girls) that he and Abigail had. ALL of John/Abigail's sons, Hiram, Lewis, Ransom & Thomas DUNN, became ministers, educators, college presidents and men of integrity and respect.
Rev. Thomas Dunn, was a Methodist clergyman before the War; (see 1860 VT census). He was listed with wife, Sarah, and children: Amos 8y; and Ransom, 5y. Unknown if he had other children.
Thomas was appointed by Gen. Butler to be general superintendant of New Orleans schools for colored children, probably because of Thomas's health. Civl War records show "did not survive War".
He was in the Vet. 2nd Light Artillery Battery, enlisted Dec. 12, 1861 at Monkton, VT (where he lived). Died, June 10, 1863.
