Ms. Nettie Mae Thomas, age 58, died December 23, 2009 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center in Dyersburg.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church were she was a member. Pastor, Rev. W.L. McCadney, Officiating. Burial will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery in Dyersburg.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 28, 2009 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church.
Ms. Nettie Mae Thomas was a member of Xi Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (Silver Star). Nettie was a high school graduate from Dyersburg High School and also continued her education at UTM were she received her B.S. degree.
She served as graduate advisor for the Undergrad Chapter at UTM, member of TSBA, Presently a member of the Dyersburg City School Board and former Secretary of the school board. She served as President of Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church Senior Usher Board and Youth advisor to the Junior Usher Board of Pilgrim Rest.
She was a member of Dyersburg-Dyer County Branch of NAACP, Member of Dyer County Democratic Party, Rural West TN African American Affairs Counsel. She had served on the board of Dyer County Red Cross.
She was the first black employee of Dyer County Dept. of Human Services where she had remained for 34 years as Eligibility Counselor. Nettie was also a former school teacher with of the Dyer County Schools System and taught at Fifth Consolidated School in Dyer County.

Special Nieces, Latonia (Carlos) Doss, Dianne (Lonnie) Starks, Newbern, TN. (3) Sisters, Ethel (Ike) Harris, Chicago, IL, Doris Barnett, Flint MI, Mary (Rufus) Simmons, Dyersburg, TN. (3) Brothers, Ernest (Delois) Stewart, Nelton (Alberta) Thomas, Dyersburg, Frank Johnson, Little Rock, Ark.
Pallbearers: Ardell Henderson, Frank Johnson, Johnny Jenkins, William O. Taylor, Walter Yander, Wilbert Ridley.
Honorary Pallbearers: Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church Youth Ushers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nelton Thomas Sr., Betty Thomas; (3) Brothers, Oliver "Jack" Thomas, William Thomas, Sanford Sherill.
