She was born April 15, 1930 in Shoffner, Arkansas to Walter B. Huff and Agnes B. McGhee and grew up in Newport, Arkansas.
Mrs. McClanahan attended Hendrix University and graduated from SMU. While at SMU, she was involved in Theatre and Fine Arts, and was in Homecoming Royalty. She taught school in England for many years, retireing in 1962. She was a member of The First United Methodist Church of England, also a member of the Heritage Club and of the Girl Scouts of America.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her daughter; Jane Portis McClanahan.
She is survived by her husband, William James McClanahan, Sr. , her son William James McClanahan, Jr., a special cousin; Janis Reid Dumas and her husband Ted of Dallas Texas, a dear family friend, Katelyn Loftis and her husband Danny, extended family and numerous friends
