Malvern Hill Cecil , 60, Stearns, formerly of Scott County, passed away suddenly Sunday morning, Jan. 26, at his home. Cecil was born in Oneida on July 20, 1925. He was the son of the late John Freeman Cecil and the late Sarah Emma Angel Cecil. He was preceded also in death by his first wife, Shirley Art Marcum Cecil; and one son, Malvern Hill Cecil, Jr. (nicknamed Joe).

He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He saw action in the South Pacific during World War II. Cecil was a retired Federal Game and Wildlife agent with the United States Department of the Interior and was selected as agent of the year in 1961.

He was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church since 1968.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Wilson Cecil of Stearns, Ky.; one daughter, Deborah Louise Cecil Smith, and one son-in-law, L. Steele Smith, both of Nicholasville; one son, John Jason Cecil of Nicholasville; one grandson, Matthew Lucas Smith of Nicholasville; one stepdaughter, Betty King; and one stepson, Charles Hamby, both of Stearns; one sister, Freda Rector of Huntsville, Tenn.; two brothers, Lindberg (D.L.) Cecil of Rt. 1, Winfield, and Sam R. Cecil of Griffin, Ga.; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted from the West-Murley Funeral Home Chapel at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30 with Rev. Roger Cecil, Rev. Milford Cecil and Rev. James E. Marcum officiating. Burial followed in the Marcum-Kidd Cemetery in Oneida.

The Oneida American Legion Post #136 was in charge of full military honors at the graveside. Pallbearers were Richard Cecil, Charles Hamby, Donald King, Phil Marcum, Jerry Marcum, Steele Smith, and Roy Watters. West Murley Funeral Home in Oneida was in charge of the arrangements.
