Found by Joann Fox during her multi-year research of the Boggess family:

"1644, 1 Apr. Robert Boggus of Nansemond Co., Va., planter, for divers causes &c and in consideration of the love of Mr George White, cleric towards mee and my wyfe in our extreme sickness, doe dive, graunt &c ... a deed of gift to Jophn White, son of said George White, one heifer calfe of halfe a year old marked ... to him and his heires &c: Norfolk. Co. Va., Deed Bk, B: 37a". ( Norfolk county so named eight years earlier, in 1836 by King George I of England

NOTE: New Norfolk County is said to have been formed in 1636 from that part of Elizabeth City County lying to the south of Hampton Roads, and extinguished in 1637 by the formation of Lower Norfolk and Upper Norfolk Counties. Upper Norfolk County was extinguished in 1643 when Nansemond County was organized following legislation the previous year. Lower Norfolk County was extinguished in 1691 when Norfolk Country was formed. Norfolk County was extinguished in 1962 when the independent city of Chesapeake was chartered. Nansemond County was extinguished in July 1972 when Nansemond City was incorporated. Nansemond City was consolidated into the City of Suffolk in 1974.

Also from Joanna:

"In regards to the will left by Robert Boggess (probable emigrant). Those early dates can sometimes be difficult due to the change in dating system. Robert's will was recorded in Northumberland Co., Va. Record book 1658-1666. The old book is ragged, stained, and torn and part of the pages are missing. Robert's page has part of it missing and is so difficult to read. (see page 3 in Vol. 1) The best that Joanna and I could decipher it does mention "sonne John Boggus", "sonne Henry Boggus". "sonne Andrew", and "daughter Nell", and "_eare wife", but have not seen her name Meare as you mention. The names Andrew and Nell appear at the end of a line and the first part of the next line is missing so does not show their last name as Boggus. The will was dated 30th Aug. 1661 and on ___26th 1662 Mr. James Hawley and Edward Hawley made oath that they witnessed this will. Then 10th Feb. 1662 it was proved and recorded. All of this was on the same page. Then on a later page in that old will book is recorded 1662, 20 9ber that James Hawley and his son Edward did witness Robert's will and the court ordered that their depositions be taken.

"Now, update to this: Apparently his wife (Mary?) died and Robert married #2 widow Elizabeth Grey and Andrew mentioned in the will was "Andrew Grey", a stepson. Could be that Nell was a Grey also.

"This is proven when in 1663 son Henry Boggas sold "one full half of 200 acres of land which was given between Andrew Grey and myself by my deceased father Robert Boggas...."

"As far as a John being listed as a father of Robert in some text, we have found no proof of this. That is why we were so careful to document records that we found for Vol. 1 (Fox-Smith Books)."
