Born in Arkansas, Herman Edward Hunt was the second son and third child of Edward Doubleday Hunt and Mary A. Hunt. He married Anna Mildred Blair and fathered six children: Geraldine, Marvin, Gail, Mary Ann, Margie, and Bill. Then he and Mildred adopted four orphaned nieces and nephews: Kay, Madelyn, Jimmy and Jerry (twins). They raised all 10 children to adulthood and lived to see many grandchildren. At various times in his life Herman operated the ferry across the South Canadian at Camargo, ran Hunt Drugs, supervised the Bentonite mine north of town, and supervised construction of several grain elevators around the state.
