ILLNESS IS FATAL TO FIRE CAPTAIN

Leo J. Donovan, Member of Department Since 1912, Succumbs

Leo J. Donovan of 705 W. Eight avenue, a fire department captain, died late Sunday (9th) in Colorado General Hospital after an illness of two weeks.

Death came at 11:50 p.m., just 10 minutes before his 54th birthday. Captain Donovan was born in Denver and attended Sacred Heart school.

He worked as a baker for 10 years and then in 1912, joined the fire department. He was advanced to the rank of Captain in 1925 and assigned to Truck Company No. 8 at 1618 Marion street.

A sister, Mrs. Cecelia Donovan Hagus, 47, of Sacramento, California, was buried on Thursday (6th) at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Captain Donovan was unable to attend the funeral because of the illness.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Grace Donovan; three sons, Leo Jr., Frank and Eugene, all of Denver, a sister; Mrs. Agnes Kitt of Oakland, California, and two brothers, Steve of Cornish (Weld Co,), Colorado and Bernard of Oakland.
