On June 25, 1941 she married her beloved husband, Johnnie Mack Blanton. They were married for 65 years until Mr. Blanton's passing in July 2006.
Mrs. Blanton came to Oak Ridge in 1943 with her husband who was employed at K-25. A homemaker, Mrs. Blanton, who was a grey lady at Methodist Medical Center and Parkwest for several years, also worked as a cafeteria service worker for Oak Ridge Schools. She was very active in the Order of the Eastern Star 390. She was also a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She loved to bake and sew. She also enjoyed photography, scrapbooking, and traveling with her husband.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Blanton, and brothers, Ira, Carl, and Charles McKissack.
Mrs. Blanton is survived by a daughter, Barbara Fricke and husband, Martin, of Del Mar, Calif.; sons, Glynn Blanton and wife, Kris, of Brentwood, Tenn., and Lynn Blanton and wife, Marquita, of Oak Ridge. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Scott and Marissa Blanton of Knoxville; and by one great-granddaughter, Olivia Faith Blanton, of Florence, Ala.
Active pallbearers are Glynn Blanton, Lynn Blanton, Scott Blanton, Bill Butler, and Raymond Wolfenbarger.
The family would like to thank the staff at NHC and Caris Hospice for all the special care they gave to Mrs. Blanton during her illness.
The funeral service will be held in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2007, with Lloyd Blackwood officiating. A graveside service will be held at Oak Ridge Memorial Park at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Amy Cook officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Weatherford Mortuary.
