Robert Boucher

Robert Jerome Boucher, 82, of Crookston, Minnesota, died Friday morning, January 21, 2005 in the Villa St. Vincent Nursing Home in Crookston with his family at his side. Robert was born on March 12, 1922 in the St. Vincent Hospital in Crookston, the son of Wilfred and Parmelia (Riopelle) Boucher. Robert was baptized and confirmed in St. Anne's Catholic Church in Crookston. He attended St. Joseph's Academy, Cathedral High School and graduated from the Northwest School of Agriculture in 1941. While in school, Robert received many awards for excelling in track and field and was also very active in the 4-H Club as a youth. From 1942 until 1943, during World War II, he served overseas and with the 108th Infantry Company in the U.S. Army as a security guard at Leavenworth prison before being medically discharged. After his discharge he returned to the area to continue working on the family farm. On August 27, 1955, Robert was united in marriage to Signe Gladys Olson of Baudette, Minnesota. The couple were married at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Crookston and made their home in rural Crookston where they farmed together and raised their family. When their sons were old enough to help out, Robert began farming with Mark and Tim. Robert and Gladys and family enjoyed camping, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Robert and Gladys spent many winter months in Weslaco, Texas. Ill health led to Robert entering the Villa St. Vincent Nursing Home on January 11, 2000. He had been very active in the rural community and was a long-time member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception parish. Robert served twelve years on the Cenex Board, was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post #1902, lifetime member of American Legion Post #20, a sixty year member of Eagles Aerie #873, and was a third degree Knights of Columbus council member. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved to take many walks. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. Before becoming a member of the Cathedral, Robert belonged to St. Anne's parish and was one of the first members to be appointed as a Eucharistic minister. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends.
