Barney J. Bocock went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 6, 2009, at his home at the age of 80. He was born on August 25, 1929, to Barney F. and Clejo Wells Bocock in Clovis. He attended Clovis schools and graduated Raton High School in 1946. He attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Illinois, and received Certification in Practical Instruction in Electricity in 1947. He returned to Clovis to work as an electrician for Barry Hardware.
He married Lavena Carlisle on September 11, 1949, at First Baptist Church in Clovis, New Mexico. They were married 60 years.
In 1956, he started State Electric, an electrical contracting business which later became State Electric and Mechanical which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1980. He served as Chairman on the State of New Mexico Electrical Board. He also served on the Baptist Children's Home Board.
He was a former member of First Baptist Church in Clovis. He was a charter member of Parkland Baptist Church where he attended the Men's Sunday School Bible Class and Church Worship. He was a dedicated Christian and servant and loved the Lord. He was ordained a Deacon by Dr. Herbert Bergstrom. He formerly served as Chairman of Deacons and Chairman of the Building Committee and Finance Committee and served on the Long-Range Planning Committee.
He enjoyed his grandchildren and enjoyed fellowship with his friends and helping people. He enjoyed the mountains and listening to gospel quartet music.
He is survived by his wife, Lavena; one son, John (Loyce) Bocock of Edgewood, New Mexico; one daughter, Linda Bocock of Clovis; one sister, Betty Trzcinski of Sedona, Arizona; four grandchildren, Jeremy (Kristi) Bocock of Edgewood, New Mexico; David (Julie) Bocock of Glendora, California; James Walker of Lubbock, Texas; Laura Walker of Clovis; three great-grandchildren, Hayden and Tesslynn Bocock and Hudson Bocock; cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held Friday, December 11, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Parkland Baptist Church in Clovis with Pastor Doug Brooks and Dr. Herbert Bergstrom officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Ellison, Marven Carter, Dr. Larry Lowry, Dick Gressett, Jack McNeil, George England, Richard Petty and David Petty. Honorary pallbearers will be all his friends.
