Sergeant Funk served with the 39th Bomb Group, 62nd Bomb Squadron at Davis-Monthan Army Airfield, Tucson, Arizona. He was one of ten airmen killed in the crash of B-24D Liberator #41-24082, three miles south of the airfield.
