He formerly was employed as a miner for 22 years and later retired from the Prudential Insurance Co. after 32 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy L., in 1987. Mr. Beard was a member of the Third Presbyterian Church and Tyrian Lodge 333, AF&AM.
Surviving are one son, Olaf William of Rochester; two brothers, Alfred of Springfield and Virgil of Chandlerville; one sister, Mrs. Lora Wanack of Taylorville; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services: Bisch Memorial Home, with Dr. Robert Langworthy officiating. Burial: Oak Ridge Cemetery.
