"Death of Dr. A. P. Champlin"

"Biloxi citizens were somewhat stunned last Sunday morning when the death, from heart failure, of the above gentleman was announced. There had been nothing to warn his friends of nearness to death, except to one or two he had mentioned that he would go very suddenly and at any moment, and these remarks were made within a week of his death, and to his son only the night before. Dr. Champlin was well known all along the coast, where he had practiced his profession since the war. He was born in New Orleans in 1839 and was a graduate from the New Orleans Medical University, and served in the hospital corps during the war. The deceased was also quarantine physician for several years, and at the time of his death was in charge of the Cat Island State Quarantine station. Dr. Champlin as a physician had a meritorious reputation and was well liked by all with whom he was thrown in contact. He leaves a wife and several children, and five brothers, viz: W. T. Champlin, at Gulfport, L. H. Champlin, at Pass Christian, C. C. Champlin, in New Orleans, Z. T. Champlin, justice of peace in Biloxi and G. W. Champlin, of Ellisville, Miss. The Herald extends its condolences to the bereaved widow and children and the family."

Printed in Herald Weekly 5/22/1897:

"We regret to announce the death of our esteemed friend, Dr. Anthony Parker Champlin, who expired last Sunday morning in Biloxi. He was a prominent and skillful physician, and a hightoned gentleman. He was a native of Handsboro, and was a son of the late Hon. Wm A. Champlin, a distinguised lawyer, who died at Pass Christian several years ago. May the sleep of our friend be peaceful. - Democratic Star"
