Lavon E. Brandt, 78, Moorhead, MN, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2009, in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead.

Lavon was born January 6, 1931 in Clay County to Fred and Erna (Evert) Brandt. She attended school at Oak Grove, Fargo, and Comstock, MN, graduating in 1948. She also attended Augsberg College and Dakota Business College. She started her career at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. Her career took her to the Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Havre de Grace, Maryland, The Bowler Restaurant, Fargo, Sunset Lanes, Moorhead, and for twenty-seven years, American Crystal Sugar Company, Moorhead, retiring at the age of 70.

On February 4, 1954, Lavon married Orlen Valan. They divorced on February 4, 1972. Lavon was a member of the American Legion, American Crystal Sugar Company Retirees, and Hoff Lutheran Church, Rustad, MN.

Lavon shared her life with, and is survived by her son, Orlen (Kris) Valan, Jr., Moorhead; and daughter Twila (Ron) Valan Beyer, Deltona, FL; four grandchildren, Joe Valan, Moorhead, Rex Valan, Moorhead, Maggie Valan, Honolulu, HI, and Tatiana Beyer, Deltona, FL; three brothers, Duane (Virgie) Brandt, Comstock, MN, Robert (Eleanor) Brandt, Comstock, MN, and Harold (Ardelle) Brandt, Moorhead, MN; sister-in-law, Karen (Ron) Offutt, Fargo, ND; many nieces and nephews. Lavon was preceded in death by her parents, brother Larry Brandt, and sister-in-law, Verlee Brandt.

Lavon's family would like to extend their appreciation to Sue Poole for the compassionate care that she provided. Memorials may be given to the Roger Maris Cancer Center or Hoff Lutheran Church.

Visitation: Sunday, November 29, 2009, (two days before the funeral) from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the funeral at the church.

Funeral: Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at 2:00 p.m., in Hoff Lutheran Church, Rustad, MN.

Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
