Pearsall Newspaper?-not cited, Tues, 3 Nov 1941, John M. Kemper, 93, pioneer Southwest Texas Citizen died at is home here Sunday (1 Nov) night following several weeks of illness. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon. Kemper was born March 30, 1849 in Port Republic, VA & came to TX in 1872 locating in San Antonio. In 1875 he went to Pleasanton where he was an employee in a mercantile firm. Later he moved to Oakville where he entered the mercantile business for himself. While in Oakville, he was married to Miss Octavia Coker. From there he & his wife moved to Tilden, where he was engaged in the mercantile business for several years. In 1897 he moved his family to Pearsall while he established the Kemper Mercantile Company. He is survived by one son: George Kemper of Pearsall & 2 grandchildren.
