G. J. Strickler, of Shen'doah Dies
Retired Merchant Will be Buried Tuesday Morning.

Shenandoah, July 31 - Gilbert Joseph Strickler, 86, retired businessman and one of the oldest residents of Shenandoah, died at 8:30 this morning at Smithland Nursing Home, near Harrisonburg, where he had been a patient for a year.

Mr. Strickler who was widely-known here and in Page county, had been in poor health some years.

He was a director of the First National Bank of Shenandoah and had served as its second president. He was chairman of the Page County Board of Supervisors for one term and took an active interest in public affairs.

Moving here from Luray in 1895, Mr. Strickler established the Strickler hardware and furniture store. He operated this establishment until 1930 when his son, Harry O. Strickler, took the business over. Mr. Strickler operated a store in Luray before moving here.

He was a son of Martin and Margaret Kite Strickler and was born near Luray. He was united in marriage with Miss Lulla Ella Gander in 1890. She died in 1945.

He was a lifelong member of the Leaksville Christian Church near Luray.

Surviving are three children, Mrs. Eva S. Roudabush of Washington; and Owen M. and Harry O. Strickler, of Shenandoah. He also leaves two brothers, Luther R. and W. M. Strickler, and a sister, Mrs. Sam Aleshire, all of Luray. He also is survived by four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at eleven o'clock from the Warren G. Kyger Funeral Home. His pastor, the Rev. R. E. Newton, of the Leaksville Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Methodist Cemetery here.

Active pallbearers will be: A. G. Callary, W. Clyde Koontz, J. L. Foltz, F. W. Eppard, W. E. Hisey, and V. C. Griffith.

The honorary pallbearers will be members of the board of the First National Bank, and C. E. Judy, C. C. Sigler, R. B. Pace and Dr. J. J. Waff.
