Elton M., son of Ira and Elisa (Carleson)Eldridge, was born in Howard Center Township and died on the same farm on which he was born. His parents came to Howard Co. in 1855. His father preempted the farm on which his son Elton M. spent all the years of his life except three years that the family resided in Cresco.
On May 15, 1893, he was married to Ada L. Hudson, who with two daughters, Mrs. Raphael (Hazel June) McCarville living near the homeplace, and Madge living at home, survive him. One daughter, Ada M., died in infancy. Three grandsons were the joy of the last years of his life. He leaves two brothers, Charles of Cresco and Ed C. of Kansas City, MO., and three sisters, Mrs. Alice White and Mrs. Irene Smith of Cresco and Mrs. Mattie Fish of Lime Springs, Iowa. Two sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Eldridge has always taken an active part in the civic affairs of his township, serving as Clerk for many years and being one of hte trustees at the time of his death. He had served for 29 years as secretary of the township school board and all his official duties was active to the very last. In 1913 he was one of the original organizers of the Cresco Cooperators Commission Co., which later was re-organized as the United Shipers; he was president of the United Shippers for the past six years and presided at their meeting on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 3rd.
Funeral was held at the Congregational Church with Rev. F.A.Ingle officiating.
