He died during a deep freeze in March and was originally buried in the Catron Cemetery at Ivanhoe because the river was frozen and the ferry wasn't operating. There were no bridges across New River anywhere close to Ivanhoe at that time.
In October, 1996, his remains were reburied beside his wife in the Horton School Cemetery at Sunnyside.
