Edmund Arlo Richardson, 75, beloved husband, brother, father and grandfather, resident of Logan, died Sunday, August 12, 1990, while serving the LDS Church as Director of the Family History Center in London, England.
He was born October 21, 1914 in Fierro, New Mexico, the son of Edmund Arthur and Ivie Romney Richardson.
He married Vonda June Tucker, August 11, 1939.
She preceded him in death November 17, 1985.
On May 3, 1986 he married Virginia Stolpe Lewis, with whom he enjoyed officiating in the Logan Temple and serving LDS missions to San Antonio, Texas and London, England.
He loved genealogy and recorded over 20 generations in his family line.
Arlo graduated from high school at age 16 and received a four year scholarship.
He received his B.S. in physics and Masters degree in physics with minors in education, math and chemistry at BYU.
He enjoyed doing research, developing models to protect the growth and development of fruit trees and answering requests on climatological data interpretation.
He retired from the U.S. Weather Bureau as a meteorologist and was state climatologist for 20 years for the State of Utah.
He was active in the LDS Church, where he held a variety of positions and was active for 50 years in Boy Scouts, where he received the honor of Silver Beaver.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia S. Lewis Richardson; three sons and three daughters, Ed Richardson, Bountiful; Paul Richardson, Salt Lake City; Bob Richardson, Salt Lake City; Bonnie Jean Thornley, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Julie Cook, Logan; and Nancy Joy Toone, Bountiful; 49 grandchildren.
He was especially proud of his grandchildren, currently serving missions, Mark Richardson, Portugal; Britt Richardson, Sweden; Susan Richardson, who will soon depart on her mission to Arizona. Brothers and sisters include Beth Webb, Provo; Annie Olsen, North Hollywood, California; Wanda Peck, Rupert, Idaho; Waldo Richardson, ElCajon, California; Keith Richardson, Columbus, Ohio.
Also surviving are the following stepchildren, Carolyn Kay, Logan; Marie Harward, East Layton; Phillip S. Lewis, Napperville, Illinois; Kaye Haueter, Smithfield; Kent S. Lewis, South Jordan.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lurlene Black; stepson, Stephen Lewis.
Friends may call Sunday, August 19, 7-9 p.m., at the Cranney Mortuary, 420 East 1800 North, North Logan and again Monday, August 20, 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Logan 24th Ward, 1260 North 1600 East.
Funeral Services Monday, 12 Noon, Logan 24th Ward.
Interment Logan Cemetery.
