Mrs. Sykora, 93, Dies in West, Rites Wednesday

Mrs. Marie C. Sykora, 93, died at her home in West at 6:45 a.m. Monday. Funeral
services were held 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Saint Mary’s Church of the Assumption
in West. Msgr. I. J. Valenta officiated with burial in Saint Mary’s Cemetery.

Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Kotch Funeral Chapel at West.

Mrs. Sykora was born in Czechoslovakia and came to the United States at the age
of 11. She settled with her parents in Fayette County. She later moved to the
West area where she had lived for the past 75 years. Her husband, the late
Joseph Sykora, died in 1953. Mrs. Sykora was a member of St. Mary’s Church of
the Assumption, St. Mary’s Altar Society, and the KJZT Lodge.

Survivors are five sons, August Sykora and Ludvik Sykora, both of West, Louis
Sykora of Abbott, John Sykora of Penelope, and Andrew Sykora of Waco; one
daughter, Mrs. Mary Maca of Kingsville; one sister, Mrs. Frances Kohut of
Temple; 18 grandchildren, 31 greatgrandchildren, and one great-grandchild
