Kenneth Frank Weatherbee, 93, died Nov. 14, 2009, at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson.

He was born Sept. 28, 1916, in Emporia, to Paul and Ethel Newton Weatherbee.

He graduated in 1933, from Muskogee (Okla.) High School and in 1936 he graduated with a degree in diesel engineering from Hemphill School, Memphis, Tenn. A resident of Hutchinson since 1987, moving from Great Bend, he was a State Farm Insurance agent in Great Bend, retiring in 1987.

He belonged to Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, and was a former member and trustee at the First United Methodist Church, Great Bend. He also belonged to the Lions Club, and Optimist Club, both at Great Bend, was member and past president of the Bushton School Board, was a member of the Salt Minors, Wesley Towers Choir, and was a volunteer with R.S.V.P., all at Hutchinson. Following his retirement, the Weatherbees wintered for over 20 years in Arizona and Texas. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On June 4, 1940, he married Winifred Grace Altenbaumer in Bushton. She died Nov. 23, 2008.

Survivors include: a son, Larry and his wife Sandy, Longwood, Fla.; two daughters, Cheryl Harmon and husband Ken, Hutchinson, and Diana Weatherbee, Durham, N.C.; four grandchildren, Christopher Harmon and wife Anne, Crown Point, Ind., Garrick Harmon and wife Nichelle, Madrid, Spain, Dawn Weatherbee, Longwood, Fla., and Ryan Weatherbee and wife Maria, Longwood, Fla.; and five great-grandchildren, Chloe Harmon, Crown Point, Ind., Elyse, Caleb, and Elena Harmon, all of Madrid, Spain, and Autumn Weatherbee, Longwood, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a brother, Paul, and a sister, Jewel Weatherbee Matthews.

Cremation will take place. Private family service will be held at a later date. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Inurnment will be in Lyons Cemetery, Lyons.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Trinity United Methodist Church, Wesley Towers Scholarship Fund, or the Alzheimer's Association, all in care of the mortuary.
