Sonja Chaene Copeland-LeBlanc, 41, was born in Susanville, Calif., on August 11, 1961. She passed away on October 14, 2002, at Washoe Medical Center.Sonja was Klamath Modoc and Pyramid Lake Paiute Indian. She was raised on the Copeland Ranch, located on the Pyramid Lake Indian Reservation. Sonja attended grade school and high school in Fernley, Nev. As a professional rodeo trick rider and entertainer, Sonja was able to travel the world. She had done shows in places such as London, Eng.; Shariahome, Japan; Sidney, Aust.; and many major cities in the United States. Sonja was part of the "Monty Montana & Buffalo Bill's Wild West show." She was in the movies "Full Circle" and "Dream West," which stars Richard Chamberlain.
She is survived by her parents, Ralph, Sr. and Elmira Copeland; two daughters, Natalia R. Gonzales and Chailese D. Gonzales; husband, Galen LeBlanc; brother and sister, Ralph Copeland, Jr. and Marilee Teton; grandmother, Lena Servilican; nephew and niece, Darren and Alicia Copeland; uncles, Clayton Servilican and Kenneth Knight; and various aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her niece, Natasha "Missy" Teton; grandfather, Harley Servilican; grandmother, Elva Tice Hudson; and grandfather, Jesse Copeland.
A viewing will be held at Ross, Burke & Knobel, 2155 Kietzke Ln., Reno, Friday October 18, 2002, from 3-8 PM. Services will be held at the L.D.S. Church in Fernley, 155 Hwy 95 alt., Saturday, October 19, 2002, viewing from 9-10 AM, and service is to follow at 10 AM, followed by graveside services held at Copeland Ranch.
