Emily (Roberts) Pickett who died at her home near McDonald, Rawlins county, Kansas, December 9, 1902, at 6 o'clock in the morning, was born in Henry county, Iowa, November 22nd, 1841. At the time of her death she was 61 years and 17 days old. She was united in marriage with Obadiah S. Pickett in Lee county, Iowa, January 3rd, 1863. There was born unto them six children, three sons and three daughters, all of whom survive her, except one daughter who died in infancy. She was raised in the Friends Church and has been a life long member of the same.
Mr. and Mrs. Pickett moved from Iowa to Washington county Kansas in 1869 where they lived until 1893 with the exception of a few years. Coming to Rawlins county in 1893 they located on a farm south east of McDonald where they have since lived. Mrs. Pickett and the family are highly respected by their neighbors and all who knew them. She was a good mother and a devoted wife. May the aged husband find consolation and sunlight of heavens joy in the thought that he will soon meet her and be reunited in the heavenly home where there shall be no parting. May she be remembered by all the family as, not in the grave, but in the kingdom of God, ready to welcome them home.
The funeral services were held in the Congregational church at McDonald, when the remains were laid away in the cemetery near by to wait the resurrection morning.
