David married Susanna Hoover (1803-1879) in 1829 in presumably Pennsylvania. David and Susanna were the parents of eight known children, namely:

The son Philip ended up in Arkansas, where he served in the Confederate Army. Did he die during the Civil War? David was a school teacher and farmer in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. In 1850 the parents (David listed as a teacher) and the second through seventh children (the eldest child, Mary, was already married) were living at Derry Township, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. In 1860 the widow Susan, along with sons Samuel and John, was living at Derry Township, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. In 1870 the widow, Susan, son John W., along with a Henry T. Snook (age 10) were living with the Andrew Rian family at Derry Township, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. Three Rothrock children (cousins) were also living with the family; John H. (age 10, James A. (age 8) and William G. (age 3). Susanna died at the home of her daughter, Nancy Rothrock Ort.
