from BINGAMAN FAMILY HISTORY by Audrey Bingaman Patterson:
Henry Bingaman came to Iowa from Orange County, Indiana in 1854 after having lost his first wife, Louisa May, and had married Rachel Harned. His oldest daughter, Margaret Bingaman Moon remained in Indiana. Henry settled in the Northwest part of Monroe County, Iowa near what is known as the Oakdale Community. He and his son Christian, settled claims adjoining each other. Henry gave the land for the Oakdale Cemetery, where he is buried and was instrumental in the building of the Oakdale Church, also on his land, although he died before the church was completed.
