(née Mary Krieter)
First Profession
Motherhouse
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
7th Commissary General
School Sisters of Notre Dame
North America
1941 to 1949
Beloved sister of Sister Mary Charitas Krieter, SSND; dear aunt of Sister M. Andrea Krieter, SSND.
Mother Fidelis was elected Commissary General following the death of Mother M. Medulpha Ebner in 1941. More than a year earlier, on September 1, 1939, the Second World War had begun in Europe with the invasion of Poland. Communication between the Sisters of North America and SSND leadership in Munich was nonexistent. During the war years the North American Sisters stockpiled supplies to send to the Sisters in Europe once hostilities ended. It was not until 1945 that the Superior General, Mother M. Almeda Schricker, learned of the death of Mother Medulpha and the election of Mother Fidelis.
Mother Fidelis was succeeded in office by Mother M. Andrina Aalbers.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord!
