Mr. Abbott had a long and honorable career in the United States Army, enlisting in 1953 and serving nine overseas tours in Germany, Korea, Vietnam, and Panama before retiring in 1983 after twenty-seven years of active duty. Among the honors he was awarded were the Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters for "heroic and meritorious achievement or service," a Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, and an Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters.
He is survived by his wife of over fifty years, Siegrid Butsch Abbott; his daughter Sieglinde Abbott Buff; his son Jesse Abbott and wife Susan; grandsons, Christopher Angel and Zachery Abbott; granddaughter, Holly Angel; great-grandson, Wayne Duff, sister Nancy Abbott Brinksneader, half-brother Danny Joe Willis and step brothers Charles, Richard, Larry, and Paul Allen Willis. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Vivian Abbott Emerson.
Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park Funeral Home on Friday, February 13. The funeral will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park cemetery.
