CORINTH - Winifred Speed, 97, died January 24, 2018, peacefully at home with Paula. She was born April 14, 1920, in Corinth, a daughter of Carroll and Alice (Stewart) Duran.
She graduated from Corinth Academy and married Gerald Speed on June 21, 1939. She worked many years with her husband on the family dairy farm. She was a member of the Charleston Pentecostal Church. Winifred recently received the Boston Post Cane as Corinth's oldest resident.
Winifred is survived by a son, Spencer; a daughter, Catherine and husband, Vaughn Cummings; 2 daughters-in-law, Johannah Preble and Paula Speed; 6 grandchildren, Richard and wife, Stephanie, and their children, Brett, Brianna and Brooke; Vernon and wife, Luanne, and their children, Andrea, Tyler and Jacob; Paul Speed and wife, Erin, and their children, Andrew, Madison and Rylee; Carolyn Libby and husband, Michael, and their children, Katrina and Matthew; Scott Speed and wife, Lisa, and their children, Austin, Savanah and Stetson; and Loretta Rines and husband, Rick.; 6 great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald; a son, Vinal; a grandson, Eric; a brother, Lyndon; and sisters, Carolyn, Evelyn and Verna.
A spring graveside funeral and committal service will be held at Corinthian Cemetery, Corinth.
