JONES, Robert A., of Loveland. Memorial services 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, Viegut Funeral Home, with reception at the Viegut Reception Center. Cremation has been completed.

Robert A.JONES , 86, of Loveland passed away Oct. 15, 2009, with his family by his side at McKee Medical Center.
He was born March 22, 1924, in Fort Collins to Charles H. Jones and June V. Jones and spent most of his life in the Fort Collins and Loveland area.

Bob joined the U.S. Navy on his 17th birthday. He survived the sinking of both the Astoria and West Virginia during World War II. He later served on the U.S.S. Proctor AR-14 salvage ship and was proud to have served the duration of the war.

He moved to California to work in the Mare Island Naval Yard in 1945. A year later, Bob moved back to Fort Collins and worked for Otzenberger Tree Service with Ken (Shorty) and Vick Schilling and part time with Heath Engineering Co.

He married Lilla V. Claypool in 1947 and moved his family to Butte, Mont., to work the copper mines. In 1948, he and his family returned to Fort Collins.

Bob was a self-taught carpenter and built more than 22 houses and worked on several renovations of homes in the Fort Collins area. Some of his other projects included deer pens for CSU, the chapel and chaplain's house on the Ben Delatour Boy Scout Ranch, a school on the Laramie River in Wyoming and the family cabin in the old gold mining town of Manhattan, Colo.

In 1966, Bob started working at the Colorado State University Lory Student Center and retired with 20 years of service.

Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lilla; his three children, Robin James and wife Carrie Jones of Loveland, Lynn Edward Jones of Red Feather, Dinah Leigh and husband Robert Junge of Denver; three grandchildren, Lucas and wife Emily Jones of Eagle-Vail, Jaymee and husband Nick Harris of Shreveport, La., and Jordan Junge of Belfast, Northern Ireland.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Glen Jones; sister, Betty Galmukoff; and his son, Charles Joseph Jones.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Viegut Funeral Home. Reception in the Viegut Reception Center.
