Lt. Colonel Samuel Clyde fought in the Battle of Oriskany as second in command of the First Regiment - Canajoharie District - of the Tryon County, New York Militia. He and his family on November 11, 1778 survived the terrible Cherry Valley Massacre, when 32 of their neighbors and friends were killed by British Rangers, Tories and Mohawk Indians.
