Ben F. Harned, 82, passed away at his home in Custer on Monday morning, April 5. Funeral services were conducted in the Custer church with Rev. F. J. Perkins and the Rev. R. O. Davis officiating. Burial, with Masonic rites under the direction of Fred Layman, was in the Custer cemetery. Mr. Harned was born on October 24, 1871, the son of the late Georg and Margarette Harned. He was married to Minnie Francis Lyon on August 1, 1894. Survivors are five children, Hubert Harned, Ernest Harned and Mrs. Margie Bruner, of Custer; Mrs. Cliff Gray, Irvington and Mrs. Vic Smith, Paducah. Also surviving are a brother Dr. E. C. Harned, Louisville, a sister, Mrs. R. O. Penick, Topeka, Kansas, ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Harned was a member of the Methodist church and the Masonic Lodge at Custer. Pallbearers were his grandsons, Franklin Gray, Daniel H. Smith, Ben Harned, Delano Harned, Howard Mitcham and Willard Stith. Honorary pallbearers were, Alex Gray, Frank Black, Melvin Triplett, Alf Triplett, Ova Board and Roy McCoy. Flower girls were granddaughters and nieces, Jeanette Stith, Inez Board, Charlotte Mitchum, Joequetta Young, Grace Carman, Ruby Gray, Mavis Dean Smith, Sue Bevin Smith, Roxie Oliver, Georgia Hoskinson, Maggie Chappell, Ruby Bandy, Lue Helen London, Pauline Pile, Betty Carden, Rosa Harned, Kathleen Alexander, Odell Blair, Lois Oliver, Alma Allgood, Marcella Dyer, Dorothy Rainy and Doris Meade.
