KLEINSCHMIT, Shizuko 84, died October 13, 2009, 8:20 a.m., at the Antelope Valley Hospital, after complications from a major back operation. Shizuko passed away peacefully with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild at her side. Shizuko was born on March 30, 1925 in Nagasaki, Japan, she was the oldest of three children, and a survivor of the Atomic Bombing of Nagaski on August 9, 1945. She took the sole responsibility at that time for her family's welfare until 1949, when her younger sister came of age and assisted in the care of their family until Shizuko's departure to the United States in 1958, with her husband Paul W. Kleinschmit and son Paul. After a three year stay in Colorado. Shizuko returned to Japan with her husband and son in 1962, and returned to the United States after four years with another addition to the family, Cathy. Shizuko and her husband and family arrived in the Antelope Valley in 1966, and was stationed at Edwards AFB, until his retirement in 1970, and made their permanent residence in Rosamond until her death. Shizuko
was active in the Local USO in Colorado, promoting Japanese culture and understanding during the 50's when negative aspects of the Japanese race was still widespread in the mid-west. She joined Megumi-Kai Fellowship sponsored by the United Methodist Church in Lancaster and became one of the oldest members of this good will organization. She also performed various volunteer duties at the Methodist Soup Kitchen which served the poor and homeless in the Antelope Valley for almost two decades. Donating time and money to the Saint Mary of the Desert Catholic Church in Rosamond for almost four decades. Consistently helping the community, and needy, always grateful to the adopted country that gave her a home. Shizuko is survived by her children Paul, his wife Linda, and Cathy, grandsons Shannon, his wife Liane and Corey and great-grandson Dresdin. Her sisters in Japan, Kazuko, her husband Hiroi and Chizuko. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Paul W. and many other countless relatives and friends who were the victims of the Atomic Bombing of Nagasaki. Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, October 25, 2009, at the United Methodist Church, on Avenue J and 10th Street West. The funeral for Shizuko will be a private family affair held at the Good Sheppard Cemetery to join her husband Paul W. Shizuko's family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations are sent to The United Methodist Church Soup Kitchen and/or Megumi-Kai Fellowship at the same location.
