Robert Brevard was a Revolutionary War soldier. He was born in Rowan County, North Carolina on July 18, 1763 and died in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri on January 2, 1847. He was married to Nancy, maiden name unknown. In 1855 he had two surviving children, Albert H. Brevard (then residing in New Orleans) and Mrs. Benjamin Bacon (then residing in Illinois).

He volunteered for short terms of duty and was drafted on two occasions. He volunteered under the command of Captain Dickey and Colonel Davie. In 1780 he was drafted and served under Captain Ramsey, his militia being subject to General Smallwood in New Providence, South Carolina. He volunteered again to serve under Captain Dickey and was engaged in a battle against the Tories. Soon thereafter he volunteered under the command of Lieutenant Robert Ramsey and fought with General Davidson to prevent the British from crossing at Cowan's Ford. Drafted again in 1781 he served under the command of Captain Cathy, eventually to be under the command of General Rutherford near Wilmington, North Carolina around the time of the defeat of Cornwallis.
