Ira "Ike" Huntley, 89, of Langdon, died at the Maplewood Nursing Home in Westmoreland. He was the son of Frank H. Huntley and Mary Kingsbury. He graduated from Charlestown High School in 1939. He was a WWII veteran. He joined the US Navy and served from 1939 to 1946. He served aboard the USS Arizona until April 1941. When Pearl Harbor was attacked, his ship, the USS Henderson, had just left the harbor the night before. Many of Ike's former shipmates were still serving on the Arizona when it went down. He also served on the USS Coates and the USS Horace A. Bass. He later served with the Vermont National Guard. Ike married Mary "Wink" L. Porter Dec. 19, 1943 at her home in Langdon. They raised three daughters. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers; Alton Huntley and Richard Huntley, a granddaughter, Andi Thorpe and a great-granddaughter, Andi Orton. Ira received full military honors and burial followed in Langdon Lower Cemetery.
