FARMERSVILLE — James William “Jimmy” Whitaker, 88, of Farmersville died Nov. 8, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Farmersville. Burial will follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Farmersville. The son of Leslie and Fannie McCullough Whitaker, he was born Sept. 30, 1918, in Anderson, Mo. In 1940 he married Jerry Baker who preceded him in death in 1989. On Oct. 13, 1990, he married Laverne Hendrex. Mr. Whitaker served as a Marine sergeant major during World War II in the Pacific. He was the oldest living deacon at the First Baptist Church in Farmersville. Mr. Whitaker had served on the Board of Directors for the North Texas Water District and served on the Farmersville City Council. He was a member of the Collin County draft board during Vietnam and was past owner of Cello-Wrap Printing in Farmersville.

His first wife and a son, Bill Whitaker, preceded him in death. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m today at Hurst’s Fielder-Baker Funeral Home of Farmersville
