Lavenia DeTar in a letter to her grandchildren said in regard to the Armstrongs: John, James, and Thomas were lawyers and your great grandfather [John the immigrant] was [also] a lawyer. Thomas never practiced law; he now lives in California. Johnson was a doctor. Your grandfather, Robert Armstrong, was a printer - worked in the printing office twelve years. Mary Armstrong was married to John Shyrock, both dead. Their son, John, lives in New Mexico. He is married.. The old maids, Bell and Maggie, live in Greensburg. Your great grandfather Armstrong [Robert] lived in a large brick house. It was sixty by forty. They had two parlors, the printing office was in the basement. We were married in Greensburg the 11th day of April, 1848, on Tuesday.
