Married Moses W. Shapleigh May 14, 1850 recorded May 18 in New Hampton NH; marriage performed by Thomas Perkins (father of the bride). She had been born in New Hampton and he in Lebanon Maine. Moses was age 30 and Emeline was 20. Her parents were not given on record.

Death record gives parents as Rev. Thomas Perkins and Rebecca Pease, father born Haverhill Massachusetts and occupation clergyman. Her mother Rebecca Pease was born in Meredith NH Nov 28, 1786 and died in 1842. Rev Thomas Perkins was a prominent Freewill Baptist clergyman and minister at New Hampton and other places. He died 1857-1865 also buried here.

Date of her birth on death record given as April 2, 1830 and she died at age 81, 6 mos and 8 days from lung disease and senility. Burial was in Green Grove Oct 13, 1911, EG Gammons, Undertaker.

Added by BL Hughes: One of the oldest and most highly respected ladies of this community is Mrs. Emeline Shapleigh of this community who recently observed her 80th birthday anniversary at the Shapleigh home on Highland Street. The high esteem in which Mrs Shapleigh is held by her friends, relatives and neighbors was testified by her receiving 73 guests during the day, 51 letters of congratulations and 117 postal cards. She received her guests in an informal way during the entire day and evening. From out of town there were many guests from New Hampton, Mrs. Maynard from Plymouth, Mr. and Mrs. Boothby and Richard Boothby of Lewiston, Maine. Mrs Shapleigh received many dozen of hothouse pinks, roses and other flowers from relatives and friends.

Mrs. Emeline Shapleigh was born about two miles from this village, in New Hampton in a house built by her father just 100 years ago. She is the youngest of seven children and is the only surviving one She was married to Moses W. Shapleigh and the first twelve years of their married life they lived in Milton. From that time she has made her home in the house built by her husband on Highland Street where she now lives. She is a prominent member of the Free Will Baptist Church and is one of its most earnest supporters. Her father is the late Rev. Thomas Perkins. The Ashland Citizen, April 9, 1910, p2.
