Mr. Shepherd was born Jan. 6 1918 in Levan Utah to Heber Augustus and Annie Jeanette Schow Shepherd. He was a graduate of Juab High School and a Navy veteran of WWII.

He married Arline Newton on July 27 1936 in Provo Utah. He was solemnized in the Los Angeles Temple April 27 1956. Mr. Shepherd was a former resident of Thousand Oaks; Kanab Utah; and St. George Utah. He was a very talented man. He sang in the Southern California Mormon Choir played the organ piano drums and tuba was a dance instructor an artist and a gardener.

Shep loved the out-of-doors hunting fishing camping and gardening. He attended the University of Southern California and graduated from Pierce College in Northridge Calif. As an active high priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he served in many callings including two stake missions.

He was preceded in death by half-brother and sister Carl Bowers and Ramona Woodruff.

Survivors include his wife Arline Shepherd of North Salt Lake Utah; son Juan M. (Beverly) Shepherd of Cambria Calif.; daughter Deanna (John) Garrett of North Salt lake Utah; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother and sisters Anita Lamb of Wales Utah, Lavoy Shepherd of Spokane Wash. and Darlene Boes of St. George Utah; half-brothers and -sisters Malin Shepherd of Levan Orvin Shepherd and Yvonne Bowman of Montana Marsha Smith of Farmington Utah Myron Shepherd and David Shepherd of Henderson Nev. Heber Shepherd Jr. of Idaho Millie Law of Idaho Loessa Calhoon of Manti Gene Bowers of Pleasant Grove and Dorene Ellison of California.

Funeral services will be held Friday March 14 1997 at 3 p.m. at the St. James Chapel 1095 E. St. James Lane St. George Utah where friends may call from 2 p.m. until time of services.

Burial will be at the St. George Cemetery under the direction of Mosdell Mortuary Kanab.
