Meriel Shipman died Monday August 18, 1986 at the V.A. Hospital in Wichita. He was 72, Meriel was born on February 27, 1914 in Elk Co., Kansas to Oscar and Nellie Van Royen Shipman.
He served in WWII with the U.S. Army in Europe and was awarded the Victory Ribbon, Eureopean Theater Ribbon and Three Bronze Service Stars. After his discharge in 1946 Meriel made his home in Wichita, Valley Center and Eureka, where he was employed by various companies. His longest employment was with C. L. Swansons Tree and Landscaping Service in Wichita.
He is survived by a brother Millard of Howard; four sisters, Minnie Armstrong of Haysville; Mildred Schneider and Mary Houston of Eureka and Marinea Phillips of Belle Plain and a mumber of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 21, 1986 at Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard, with Bernard Smith of the Howard Church of Christ officiating. Military graveside services were conducted by Carter-Rader Post #149 of Howard. Funeral arrangements by Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
