Ebenezer was a sergeant in the 86th Virginia during the War of 1812 who became a farmer on Beaverdam in Waterford, Virginia. He also opened a store about 1856 in Morrisontown. He married Leah Coty Werts in 1820 and they had seven children.

A strong Union supporter, Ebenezer voted against secession in 1861. During the war, he helped supply the Loudoun Rangers but lost $800 in 1864 during the Union burning raids.
