The daughter of John Kearney* and Mary Golden, Mary was born in Tyrol, Ireland.

Mary married Samuel Boland, Jr. on 30 Dec 1864 in Calhoun County, Illinois. He was a farmer, and they were the parents of at least 6 children.

After Samuel, Jr. died (between 1874 and 1880), Mary and her surviving children endured hard times.

Mary took a job as a housekeeper for Frederick and Maria Warminghausen in Calhoun County. Only 1 of Mary's 3 young children, James, lived with her, but he died in 1882 at the age of 12.

Mary's other 2 surviving children, John and Samuel III, were listed as "homeless" after their father's death. They lived with Henry and Elisabeth Heller in 1880, and John worked as a farmhand for them despite his young age.

John married "Ella" Moses on 26 Jan 1893 in Calhoun County.

By 1900, Mary and her son, Samuel III, once again lived together. He worked out as a farm laborer and never married. They remained together until her death in 1916.

When she died, Mary was 83 years, 5 months and 1 day old. She was buried on 18 Dec 1916 and was survived by 2 sons. John died in 1948, and Samuel III passed away in 1953.
