Earl Abraham Butler, 84, of park Rapids, died Saturday, may 21 at his home.

He was born Aug 15, 1892 in Worth County, Missouri to William and Jennie Butler. He was raised and educated and lived there until 1909 when he moved with his parents to Ringgold County, Iowa where he resided until the spring of 1935 when he moved to Park Rapids. In Park Rapids he purchased the Campbell Grocery and operated this store as the Butler's Market, until the fall of 1950 when he sold it. In the spring of 1953 he entered the real estate business and joined the firm known as Heimark Realty Co and continued in the real estate business until his death.

In 1955 he was elected mayor of Park Rapids and served as mayor for 12 years. He was a member of Shell Lodge No 184 AF & AM, Park Rapids, and Eastern Star. He was a member of the Riverside United Methodist Church where he served on the financial board for several years. On Dec 10, 1914 he married Damsel M. Kater. Surviving are two daughters Mrs Herbert (Jean) Zaslove of Chevy Chase, MD, and Mrs max (Ava Marie) Kreutz of Wichita Falls, TX, four grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs John Kater of Pine River, and mrs Grant Hayes of Mount Ayr, IA. He was preceded in death by one daughter.

Internment was in Greenwood Cemetery, Park Rapids.
