Ervin A. Grams, age 86, resident of Brainerd, went to be with his Lord Friday, June 30, 2006. He died at Bethany Good Samaritan Village surrounded by his beloved family after a long illness. Ervin was born in Richardson Township, Morrison County, Minn., April 15, 1920, to Charles and Alice (Roloff) Grams. He married Rita Mayer on May 8, 1944, in Brainerd, where they resided together for 53 years.

He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, life member of the VFW Post No. 1647 and member of Disabled American Veterans and American Legion Post No. 255 for more than 40 years.

Ervin's hobbies included fishing, woodworking, traveling, agate collecting, hunting and was a poker club member for more than 20 years.

He began working for Potlatch in 1939 as a hydroplant operator, where he worked for 43 years. Ervin joined the U.S. Army in 1942. He served in the 104th Timberwolf Division, 414 Regiment, Company A. He served during World War II earning four battle stars from France, Holland, Belgium and Germany.

He is survived by one daughter, Carol Ann (Leon) Yeager of Merrifield; two sons, Leroy (DelRae) Grams of Brainerd and Dennis (Becky) Grams of Brainerd; seven grandchildren, Tim (Carol) Yeager, Greg (Sarah) Yeager, Angie (Tracy) Matich, Susan Grams, Mike Grams, Kris (Matt) Adamietz, and Tom (Jenny) Grams; eight great-grandchildren, Tyler, Mikayla, MacKenzie, Abigail, Benjamin, Riley, Nicholas, and Jack; one brother,

Clarence (Celia) Grams of Brainerd; two sisters, Gen "Jean" (Karl) Goering of Maple Valley, Wash., and Ettwina Felver of Duluth; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita, in 1997; infant son, Duane; his parents; and brother, Lloyd Grams.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2006, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd with Father Seamus Walsh officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens with military honors by VFW Post No. 1647 Color Guard. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday with parish prayers 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd and at the church Thursday the hour before services.

Memorials are preferred.
