CLARA DOUGLASS HILL was the oldest of 5 children born to Wylie Jones Douglass, Jr. and Hellen Augusta Doubleday, who had married Nov. 15, 1878. Her siblings were: Wylie Bernard, Elizabeth, Emma Lucy, and Obediah Jenkins. Clara's mother died in 1885, and her father then married Eliza Bain in 1891.

Clara married James William "Will" Hill May 3, 1905. Will was 1st Circuit Court Clerk for Sumner Co., then Chief Clerk of the office of the State Treasurer, and then Journal Clerk of the State Senate. He also operated a Nursery on his farm on Long Hollow Pike. Clara and Will's home is now the Clubhouse of the Long Hollow Pike Golf Course. Will's parents and two aunts lived with them until they passed away. Clara and Will were members of Gallatin Methodist Church. Will died after surgery in Nashville and Clara survived him by 30 years.

Bernice, 1907-1982, m. Norval Sanders Douglass
Elizabeth, 1911-2002, m. Thomas Oliver Barnett, Sr.
