News-Register, McMinnville, Oregon, Wednesday, Sep. 30, 2009

Webb Alexander passed away peacefully in Tigard, Oregon, surrounded by family, just two weeks after celebrating his 90th birthday.

Webb was born in McMinnville to Wilton and Clara (Webb) Alexander and was raised in McMinnville. A graduate of McMinnville High School and Linfield College, he was a veteran of World War II and was honorably discharged in March of 1946.

Webb married Martha Underwood in 1943 and they raised their three sons in McMinnville. After the children were grown, Martha and Webb moved to Boise and then to the Portland area where Webb remained for the rest of his life.

Webb was a wonderful salesman and worked in office furniture design and set up until he retired in 1987. He and Martha moved to the retirement community of The Highlands in Tigard, Oregon. They traveled to Europe, explored the United States and spent many happy days at the Oregon Coast. Golfing buddies and outings were a great source of pleasure for Webb, and he played golf regularly well into his 80's.

Giving back was important to the Alexanders and many hours were devoted to driving for Meals on Wheels, the Red Cross, volunteering with the American Cancer Society in Portland, in addition to serving on several boards.

Family, however, was Webb's main joy in life. He was involved in all of the activities of his boys and took special delight in his three grandchildren and later his six great-grandchildren. He and Martha were at every event in which the grandkids participated. If events were double-booked they would be seen driving back and forth so as to not play favorites.

After Martha's death in 1993, Webb met a very special woman who had just lost her husband. They lived just one building apart in the Highlands. Donna Lewman and Webb were married in 1995 and they would have been married 15 years in January. Webb and Donna traveled extensively and spent many, many weeks at Donna's beach home in Yachats. There is no doubt that Donna made Webb's final years very happy and complete.

Webb was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Martha Underwood Alexander; son, Martin and sister, Virginia Carlson.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Lewman Alexander and her children, Zoann, Mack and Jay; sons, Richard (Diane), Thomas; grandchildren, Jason (Heidi), Gregory (Amy), Stacey Freeman (Greg); great-grandchildren, Tate, Aidan, Maisie, Logan and Quinn Alexander and Marley Freeman, all of Portland.

Private family graveside services were held at Evergreen Memorial Park, McMinnville. Memorials may be sent to Willamette Valley Cancer Foundation c/o Macy and Son Funeral Directors.
